Third District, Pittenger divorce

The first page of a Utah decree. In the Third Judicial District Court of the State of Utah in and for Salt Lake County. Beryl Jean Pierce Pittenger, plaintiff, versus Thomas Arnold Pittenger, defendant. Decree, No. 126009. The matter was heard without a jury on Wednesday the 26th day of October 1960, the plaintiff represented by Glen S. Hatch. The marriage is dissolved, not final for three months. Custody of the minor children is awarded to the plaintiff, three of them subject to the orders of the Juvenile Court of the Third Judicial District. A clerk’s stamp reads October 28, 1960. Written by hand down the left margin, in a different hand, are the words: Her parental rights were terminated 4-11-61. Unfit mother.

Civil No. 126009. The end of her marriage to Thomas Arnold Pittenger, father of five of her six children. Filed the year before the court took the children.

The writing down the left margin is not the court’s. It is the same note the next record is about.
